Flying Scotsman at the National Railway Museum 2025

Flying Scotsman returns to the National Railway Museum in York, giving you the chance to see the world’s most famous steam locomotive up close.

York Chocolate Festival

If you are a chocolate lover, you won’t want to miss the York Chocolate Festival, an annual event that celebrates the city’s rich and lengthy chocolate-making heritage.

Over the Easter weekend, you can enjoy a range of chocolate activities on offer, including workshops, a chocolate trail, and a lively market featuring local chocolatiers. You can also sample some of the best of York’s food scene with the Taste Trail, a self-guided walking tour around the city that lets you try bites of chocolate, cakes, confectionery, and drinks from various participating businesses.

The York Chocolate Festival is more than just a sweet treat. It is also a chance to learn about the history and culture of chocolate in York, which dates back to the 18th century and includes famous names like Rowntree’s, Terry’s, and Craven’s.

Yorkshire Photo Walk – The Best Bluebells

The Best Bluebells in Yorkshire Photo Walk offers a unique opportunity to explore one of the region’s most picturesque bluebell woodlands while enhancing your photography skills. Led by an experienced guide, this three-hour session covers everything from capturing woodland landscapes to intricate macro shots of delicate bluebell petals. Suitable for all skill levels, the walk includes both group and one-to-one tuition, along with practical exercises to help you engage with your subject and improve your technique.

Starting from Weeton, the route spans approximately 1.5 miles over compacted earth, crushed stone, and grassy paths. You are encouraged to bring your camera and a selection of lenses, including wide-angle and macro options. With limited parking at the woodland, a car-share system will be in place to ensure easy access. This immersive experience is ideal for anyone looking to refine their photography while enjoying Yorkshire’s stunning springtime scenery.

Bradford Faith Trail

Bradford Faith Trail offers a unique opportunity to discover a little bit about Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Christian (Roman Catholic and Church of England) faith buildings. About the faiths within them and how they link into Bradford’s local community culture and faith heritage.

You can visit as many places of worship as you like – each place of worship will be open for set times and you will be shown around by experienced guides who are there to answer your questions, and to make your visit more informative and enjoyable.

The Trail begins at St. Peter’s RC Church at the top of Leeds Road and works its way down Leeds Road, stopping at the Abu Bakar Masjid, the Shree Lakshmi Narayan Hindu Temple and the Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurdwara, where everybody enjoys a langar (vegetarian lunch). It finishes with a tour of Bradford Cathedral and refreshments.

Easter Express at Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

The Easter Express is back at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, offering a nostalgic journey through the stunning Worth Valley countryside. Running daily, the service features a mix of steam engines and heritage diesel locomotives, creating a truly immersive railway experience. With six stations to explore along the five-mile route, there’s plenty to see and do. Families can step inside vintage carriages at the Carriage Works Museum, and enjoy refreshments at the on-train Buffet Car or the charming Tea Room at Oxenhope Station. Even four-legged friends are welcome on board!

You can also stop by the Exhibition Shed at Oxenhope to get a close-up view of locomotives awaiting restoration, or relax at the Oakworth Tea Hut, tucked behind the famous station from The Railway Children. On event days, artisan food vendors serve fresh street food, making it an ideal spot for a bite to eat. Whether you’re a railway enthusiast or simply looking for a unique day out, the Easter Express promises a memorable trip back in time.

Easter Trail at East Riddlesden Hall

Celebrate Easter with a fun-filled outdoor adventure at East Riddlesden Hall. This family-friendly trail invites you to explore the beautiful gardens while taking part in ten interactive activities, including wheelbarrow racing, egg and spoon races, and a matching game. As you follow the trail, you’ll enjoy the fresh spring air and picturesque surroundings, making it a great way to spend time together over the Easter holidays.

Each trail pack costs £3.50 and includes an activity sheet, bunny ears, and a choice of a dairy or vegan and Free From chocolate egg. Normal admission charges apply. No booking is required, so you can simply turn up and take part. The last entry is at 3:30 pm, giving you plenty of time to complete the trail at a relaxed pace.

Where’s Woolly? at Temple Newsam

Where’s Woolly? is coming to Temple Newsam this Easter, inviting families to help track down the mischievous springtime lambs that have wandered into the historic house. As you explore, you’ll discover a range of sheep and wool-themed activities, from interactive trails to hands-on crafts. Over at Home Farm, little ones can meet the newest arrivals, including fluffy lambs, playful piglets, and other baby animals.

This event is perfect for a fun-filled family day out, with plenty to see and do across the estate. While the hunt for the missing sheep takes place in the house, the farm offers a chance to learn more about rare breed animals and farming life. The event is included in admission, but do keep in mind that the house is closed on Mondays.

Easter Egg Trail at Nostell

This spring, Nostell invites families to explore its Easter adventures in nature trail, packed with fun activities for all ages. Leeds Young Film Festival 2025

Leeds Young Film Festival returns this Easter, offering a fantastic selection of family-friendly films, hands-on workshops, and immersive VR experiences. Comedy at The Old Woollen

Comedy at The Old Woollen is back in April with a fantastic line-up of stand-up talent, offering an evening of sharp wit and laughs. April’s line-up features Garrett Millerick, praised by The Scotsman as “wickedly funny,” alongside Sully O’Sullivan, known for his high-energy performances. Raul Kohli, a nominee for Best Show at the Edinburgh Fringe 2024 Ish Awards, adds his unique comedic style to the mix. The night will be expertly hosted by Nina Gilligan, Chortle’s Best Club Comedian 2023, ensuring a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout.

All profits from the event will be donated to local causes, including Ilkley Youth Club, and the Clarke Foley Centre. On race day, final sales will take place at The Grove, the Riverside Hotel, and New Brook Street Bridge until shortly before the race begins. Winners will be announced on the day, with results also published online and in the Ilkley Gazette.

Burnby Hall Tulip Festival 2025

The annual Tulip Festival at Burnby Hall Gardens, Pocklington is always a very popular event and provides a colourful and vibrant beginning to the new season.

Whilst best known for our impressive National Collection of over one hundred varieties of Hardy Water Lily, which bloom on the two ornamental lakes in the summer, the Tulip Festival attracts many thousands of visitors to Pocklington’s unique Gardens in the spring.

The Gardens are seven times consecutive winners of the prestigious Yorkshire in Bloom Gold Award, and a great deal of care and attention is given to ensuring that the bulbs are planted to create some lovely displays, with the underplanting of the tulips being developed in several locations.

This year, there is a cascade of colours throughout the Gardens, featuring over 18,000 tulips, with over 130 varieties, which can be seen formally displayed in tubs throughout the Gardens and in the main flower beds across the site.
