Books by the Beach 2026
Books by the Beach 2026 brings a rich lineup of authors to Scarborough for a weekend of literary conversation. This year’s programme has a strong Brontë thread, with Deborah Lutz presenting the first full Emily Brontë biography in two decades and Essie Fox reimagining Wuthering Heights from Catherine Earnshaw’s perspective.
The weekend also features ITV’s Tom Bradby discussing his latest thriller, food writer Felicity Cloake introducing her debut novel, and Sir Alexander McCall Smith sharing stories and poetry. Yorkshire Cycle Festival
The Yorkshire Cycle Festival offers a free day out for cycling enthusiasts at its new home at Driffield Show Ground. York Mystery Plays Festival
The York Mystery Plays Festival returns this summer with a vibrant celebration of the city’s medieval storytelling heritage. The Watchers of York: Sculpture Trail
The Watchers of York is a brand new city-wide sculpture trail launching alongside the legendary York Mystery Plays. Inspired by the real stone carvings on York Minster, larger-than-life sculptures will be dotted across the city for you to discover. From hidden gardens to cobbled streets, each sculpture is full of character, humour and mystery.
This is a Make It York event in collaboration with York Minster. The stone guardians of the Minster have silently watched over the city for centuries and now one of them is stepping off the stonework. It is a free, self-guided trail perfect for families and visitors of all ages.

Lights, Camera, Brontë takes you inside the atmospheric world of Wuthering Heights at East Riddlesden Hall. This exhibition uncovers the hall’s starring role in over a century of film and TV adaptations of Emily Brontë’s novel. You can explore historic rooms where directors once brought Yorkshire moorland drama to life.
Original screenplays and objects linked to the Brontës are on display throughout the hall. The exhibition blends literary heritage, cinematic history, and local stories.
Hannah’s Highlight: I have such a soft spot for East Riddlesden Hall. It’s small but totally charming, the kind of place where you keep finding things you didn’t expect. Ossett Beercart 2026
The Ossett Beercart is a traditional Yorkshire celebration of beer, Morris dancing, and community spirit. The weekend kicks off with a beer festival at Ossett Town Hall on the Friday evening. Saturday brings a colourful procession through the town centre. A cart of beer barrels is pulled by up to a hundred Morris dancers from across the country.
Live music, a bustling market, food stalls, and children’s rides fill the town throughout the day. The beer festival runs alongside the entertainment all weekend. All proceeds support Wakefield Hospice.

Bradford Faith Trail
Bradford Faith Trail offers a unique opportunity to discover a little bit about Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Christian (Roman Catholic and Church of England) faith buildings. About the faiths within them and how they link into Bradford’s local community culture and faith heritage.
You can visit as many places of worship as you like – each place of worship will be open for set times and you will be shown around by experienced guides who are there to answer your questions, and to make your visit more informative and enjoyable.
The Trail begins at St. Peter’s RC Church at the top of Leeds Road and works its way down Leeds Road, stopping at the Abu Bakar Masjid, the Shree Lakshmi Narayan Hindu Temple and the Guru Gobind Singh Ji Gurdwara, where everybody enjoys a langar (vegetarian lunch). It finishes with a tour of Bradford Cathedral and refreshments.
Places on the Faith Trail are limited, and booking is essential. To book your free place, e-mail faithtrail@bradfordcathedral.org in the first instance, or call the Cathedral Office on 01274 777720 between 9am and 2:45pm Monday – Friday.
Hannah’s Highlight: Exploring the Bradford Faith Trail was a truly eye-opening experience for me. Living in West Yorkshire, I’m surrounded by a vibrant mix of cultures and religions, but this trail offered a unique opportunity to dive deeper into the heart of our community. Leeds Lit Fest 2026

The 2 Hour Leeds Highlights Walking Tour guides you through the city’s most iconic landmarks with an expert local guide. WOVEN World Stitch Day 2026
WOVEN World Stitch Day 2026 returns to Oakwell Hall with a free day celebrating textiles, craft, and culture. Hands-on workshops run throughout the day, including Japanese sashiko and community embroidery.
A dedicated textiles marketplace showcases demonstrations from skilled makers, spanning contemporary craft to heritage methods. You can try your hand at something new, regardless of age or experience. The event is part of the wider WOVEN in Kirklees programme.
Hannah’s Highlight: Oakwell Hall is personally very close to my heart. I reviewed The Red Dress Exhibition when it was displayed in the Great Hall as part of WOVEN. As a craft enthusiast, I wasn’t expecting just how moving it would be. The hall has a deep connection to textiles through the Oakwell Broiderers, and it’s the perfect setting for a day of stitch and craft.

The Jazz Room: Marvin Gaye in a Night of Soul
The Jazz Room presents a rich and heartfelt tribute to Marvin Gaye at Belgrave Music Hall in Leeds. A brilliant live band brings his greatest hits to life, from “Let’s Get It On” to “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”. The intimate venue is the perfect setting for a night of soul music and connection.
This is a celebration of one of the most iconic voices in soul music. You can grab a drink, settle in and enjoy the performance across two evening sessions. The Jazz Room always has glowing reviews, with an incredible band and relaxed atmosphere.
Hannah’s Highlight: I went to a Jazz Room New Orleans night recently and it was absolutely packed. The band was fantastic and everyone really got into the music. There are so many Jazz Room themes to choose from, whatever your taste. The cocktails from the bar were perfect too!

Ilkley Food & Drink Festival
Ilkley Food & Drink Festival returns to East Holmes Field with a weekend of international street food and craft drinks. You can explore stalls from some of the UK’s best street food traders across the green fields of Wharfedale. Eight independent bars pour everything from cocktails to freshly squeezed juices. A fine artisan market offers local cheese, gourmet fudge, and cured meats.
Live music plays all weekend, with over 26 jazz, soul, pop, and indie acts taking the stage. Yorkshire Food Guide runs free chef demonstrations on a dedicated cooking stage. The 61st Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition arrives at Sewerby Hall, on loan from the Natural History Museum. The images have been selected from thousands of entries across the globe.
Your day pass also includes access to the gardens, zoo, and the hall itself. You can hand feed the penguin colony, explore 50 acres of clifftop parkland, and enjoy Orangery concerts during your visit. It is a full day out on the East Yorkshire coast.

Wassand Hall Open Days
Wassand Hall Open Days offer a chance to explore this Regency house and its beautiful East Yorkshire estate. The hall remains a family home, with a collection of period paintings, silver, and furniture inside. You can wander the walled gardens, with their parterre and cactus house, before heading out on woodland and parkland walks.
An all-day ticket gives you access to the Bird Hide on the edge of Hornsea Mere from the morning. The hall itself opens from 1:30pm, with tea rooms serving homemade cakes. No booking is needed, and parking is free.

Sledmere Walled Garden Talks
The Sledmere Walled Garden Talks offer a chance to go behind the scenes at one of East Yorkshire’s finest country house gardens. In early June, garden team member Issac leads a talk on growing succulents in the Sledmere glasshouse. Later in the month, Head Gardener Jan takes you on a stroll through the walled garden to discuss the beautiful rambling, climbing and shrub roses.
Each talk lasts around 30 minutes with time for questions, and you meet at the entrance to the walled garden. Tickets include admission to the parkland and gardens, so you can make a full day of it. Sledmere House is set in the rolling Yorkshire Wolds and is well worth the journey.

Yorkshire Puffin Festival
The Yorkshire Puffin Festival returns to Flamborough Cliffs for a weekend of guided walks, wildlife cruises, and seabird spotting. Run by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, the festival celebrates one of the best spots in the country to see puffins from land. You can join expert-led dawn and dusk walks along the cliffs or set sail on a traditional coble boat.
The headland is also home to razorbills, kittiwakes, and thousands of other breeding seabirds. Drop-in “Peering at Puffins” sessions continue on Sundays throughout June and July. A downloadable family guide is available for self-led adventures around the reserve.

Wold Rangers Way Walking Festival
The Wold Rangers Way Walking Festival returns for its fifth year across the Yorkshire Wolds. Guided walks follow ancient green lanes and bridlepaths through some of East Yorkshire’s finest scenery. Each route is named after a real Wold Ranger, with distances from 3 to 44 miles.
You’ll have volunteer walk leaders, back markers, and first aiders with you on every route. Shorter walks with local history talks are free or by donation. Specialist and longer routes carry a small charge to cover costs.

Beverley Folk Festival
There has been a folk festival in the beautiful market town of Beverley every year since 1983. The event has hosted countless legendary performances by hundreds of artists, helping to create the flourishing live music scene in the town today, and putting the town very much on the map.
Each year the festival presents a varied programme of ticketed and free events, open ‘jam’ sessions, and workshops. Being a folk festival at heart, folk dance is a big part of the event. Typically, the festival welcomes at least a dozen teams, from Morris to Rapper to Clog and everything in-between. They travel from across the country to the festival each year to take part in the parade and dance in various locations across town.
