Christmas Markets in Yorkshire

A thoughtful gift can start with a conversation at a maker’s stall, a browse through a collection of prints or a taste of something made nearby. Yorkshire’s Christmas markets give you opportunities to support independent businesses while enjoying a little of the festive season along the way.

There’s a mix here for different kinds of outing, from a morning at a community craft fair to a longer day exploring a town-centre market. Many have free entry, while ticketed fairs bring larger collections of makers together in distinctive venues. Choose a few favourites, make room for a food stop and enjoy discovering what’s being made across Yorkshire.

Christmas Markets in North Yorkshire

Alpine chalets in York, makers in Skipton’s auction mart and gifts beneath Ripon Cathedral’s roof give North Yorkshire a varied Christmas shopping calendar. There are village markets in Grassington and Knaresborough too, plus craft browsing at Ampleforth and a festive outing on the coast.

Here is my roundup of the best Christmas Markets in North Yorkshire for Christmas 2026.

York Christmas Market

Alpine chalets bring Yorkshire makers into the heart of York, with crafts, artisan gifts and seasonal food to browse between the city’s shops. More than 80% of the traders are based in Yorkshire, so there’s a lovely local thread running through the market, even with its familiar continental styling.

Take a little time over the stalls if you’re looking for a present with a story behind it. Ethical and eco-friendly products are part of the market’s sustainability focus, adding another reason to look beyond your usual shopping list. I’d leave room in the day for a food stop as well as the gift hunting!

Dates: 12th November – 21st December 2026 (Wednesday – Monday; closed Tuesdays)

Ticket Prices: Free entry

Address: Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square, York YO1 8RY

You can expect a delightful mix of handcrafted jewellery, unique homeware, and locally made food and drink, perfect for ticking off your Christmas list.

As you wander between the stalls, you’ll find plenty of festive inspiration and seasonal flavours to enjoy. Sip on a warming drink, pick up some artisan treats, and chat with friendly local traders passionate about their craft. The relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere makes it an ideal festive day out for all ages, even four-legged friends are welcome to join in the cheer.

Living North Christmas Fair Yorkshire

Designer-makers, homeware and gifts come together across more than 200 stands at Living North’s Yorkshire Christmas fair. There’s scope for a proper browse here, whether you’re choosing a present for someone else or keeping an eye out for a piece for your own home.

The food halls bring regional producers into the mix, giving you another way to shop locally for the season. Chef demonstrations are planned too, although the line-up is still to be announced. I’d allow time to explore the food and gift stands separately, so the edible treats don’t get overlooked while you’re concentrating on the Christmas list.

Dates: 19th – 22nd November 2026

Ticket Prices: £7/adult early bird online until 18th November, plus booking fee; £9/adult on the door; £6/over 60s; free/under 12s

Ripon Cathedral Christmas Food & Gift Fair

More than 100 stalls fill Ripon Cathedral with Christmas gifts, food and drink for its annual festive fair. The cathedral gives the shopping a distinctive setting, bringing a busy seasonal event into a building with a very different everyday purpose.

There’s a worthwhile local cause behind the visit too. The fair raises funds for the cathedral’s education programme, music and heritage conservation, alongside its wider work in the community. Browse for presents, pick out something for the Christmas table and enjoy a shopping trip that helps support the place hosting it. It’s a thoughtful addition to a festive day in Ripon.

Dates: 20th – 21st November 2026

Ticket Prices: £5/adult; free/under 16s (no child ticket required)

Address: Ripon Cathedral, Minster Road, Ripon HG4 1QT

Ripon’s Artisan Christmas Market

Traditional wooden cabins bring makers, bakers and craftspeople into Ripon’s Market Square for its artisan Christmas market. Little Bird Made and Ripon BID are behind the event, with independent traders at the centre of the shopping.

The mix of handmade goods and things to eat gives you a choice between presents to wrap and treats to take home. Entertainment runs across the market programme too, so you can stop and enjoy what’s happening around the stalls. Pairing a browse with a look around Ripon’s shops would make a lovely festive outing, especially if you’re trying to keep more of your Christmas spending local.

Dates: 20th – 22nd November 2026

Ticket Prices: Free entry

Address: Ripon Market Square, Market Place, Ripon HG4 1BW

Crafts in the Pen

Skipton Auction Mart becomes a showcase for 230 artists and craft makers at Crafts in the Pen. It’s a chance to put independent creativity at the centre of your Christmas shopping, with a much bigger selection than you might squeeze into a quick browse around a handful of stalls.

Buying directly from professional artists and makers gives the visit a personal touch. You can take your time looking at the work, choose something for a particular person and support the people who created it. Two cafés and a hot drinks point give you somewhere to pause when your shopping bags need a rest.

Dates: 21st – 22nd November 2026

Ticket Prices: £7.50/person; free/under 16s; parking and Santa’s Grotto with a gift included

Address: Skipton Auction Mart, Gargrave Road, Skipton BD23 1UD

Great Yorkshire Christmas Fair

Gifts, food and fashion share the spotlight at the Great Yorkshire Christmas Fair, where 180 stalls fill the indoor event space. There’s plenty to explore if your Christmas list stretches from presents for other people to a few treats for the festive table.

The food hall adds another strand to the shopping, while cafés and two licensed restaurants make it possible to break up a longer visit. I’d treat this as an outing to browse at your own pace, with time to look around before making those final choices. An indoor fair is also a handy option when the weather makes an outdoor market less tempting.

Dates: 26th – 29th November 2026

Ticket Prices: £5/person online early bird; £7/person online after early bird; £9/person on the door

Address: Great Yorkshire Events Centre, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate HG2 8NZ

Scarborough Sparkle

Christmas shopping heads to the coast at Scarborough Sparkle, with craft and gift stalls taking over the Open Air Theatre alongside hot food and drinks. The market sits within a wider festive programme, so there’s more to the visit than working your way through a present list.

The community lantern parade gives the event a local focus, and choirs feature on the stage programme. There’s a tipi bar too, making it easy to plan a pause between browsing the stalls and watching the entertainment. Wrap up for the outdoor setting and leave a little breathing space in your plans to enjoy both sides of the event.

Dates: 27th – 29th November 2026

Ticket Prices: Free entry; purchases and rides extra

Address: Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Burniston Road, Scarborough YO12 6PF

Ampleforth Abbey Christmas Craft Market

Local artists, craftspeople and independent artisan traders come together for Ampleforth Abbey’s first Christmas craft market. Handmade gifts are the focus, making this a promising stop if you’d like to support small creative businesses while choosing your presents.

The stalls will be indoors in Alban Roe House, giving the event a different feel from a town-centre street market. There’s room in the Christmas calendar for a smaller craft-led outing as well as the big regional fairs. I’d go with a few people in mind to buy for, then let the makers’ work suggest the presents rather than sticking too firmly to a list.

Dates: 28th – 29th November 2026

Ticket Prices: Free entry

Address: Alban Roe House, Ampleforth Abbey, Ampleforth YO62 4EN

Grassington Christmas Markets

Grassington’s village square and Town Hall give you two different ways to browse at its Christmas markets. Outdoor stalls bring festive shopping into the village centre, while the indoor craft fair adds another stop to the day.

Make room for the independent shops and galleries as well as the market itself. They’re part of the appeal of a visit to Grassington, and the cafés give you somewhere to sit down between browsing sessions. A village shopping trip is a lovely excuse to slow the pace, look closely at what’s on the stalls and choose a few presents without rushing straight on to the next stop.

Dates: 28th November and 5th December 2026

Ticket Prices: Free entry; optional Santa visit £5/child

Address: Various venues around the Village Square and Grassington Town Hall, Grassington

Knaresborough Christmas Market

Knaresborough’s historic Market Place becomes the centre of its Christmas market weekend, with stalls surrounded by independent shops, cafés and galleries. It’s a setting that encourages you to wander beyond the first row of traders and see a little more of the town while you’re there.

Local performers add entertainment to the shopping, giving you a reason to pause between purchases. I’d build a café break into the visit and leave time for the surrounding shops too. That way, you can enjoy the market as part of a day in Knaresborough, with plenty of opportunities to find a thoughtful present along the way.

Hannah’s Highlight: While you’re in Knaresborough, why not check out the best things to do in Knaresborough to make the most of your visit.

Harewood Christmas Market

Little Bird Made brings independent makers to Harewood for two separate Christmas market weekends. The first has more than 100 makers, with more than 75 planned for the second, giving you a substantial collection of stalls whichever visit you choose.

Gifts and handmade goods are the main reason to come, but the grounds and gardens add something extra to the outing. Leave some time to explore outdoors after browsing if the weather is kind. It’s a lovely opportunity to combine shopping with a visit to the estate, rather than trying to fit everything into a quick circuit of the market.

Dates: 6th – 8th and 27th – 29th November 2026

Ticket Prices: Friday: £3/person, £5 on the day; Saturday/Sunday: from £8/person, £10 on the day; free/members and under 4s

Fresh bread and chocolate sit alongside the handmade goods, so the visit needn’t be entirely about things to wrap. The market uses Nostell’s Stables Courtyard and Riding School, bringing independent shopping into the estate setting. It’s a lovely excuse to look for a few thoughtful gifts and take something home for yourself as well.

Dates: 7th – 8th and 28th – 29th November 2026

Local food stalls in the stable yard give you somewhere to turn when it’s time for a break, and the Yorkshire Rock Choir is part of the Saturday programme. Bring someone who enjoys browsing as much as you do and leave time to see what the traders have made. A first visit to a new market is a lovely opportunity to discover a different collection of independent businesses.

City Square brings together more than 60 makers, food vendors and retailers for Leeds Christmas Market. The Trader Village puts local gifts and street food alongside one another, so you can combine a little present hunting with something to eat.

THOR’S Highland Lodge and the Folie Après Ski Bar add places to gather with friends around the shopping. It’s an easy event to weave into a wider trip around Leeds, whether the stalls are your main destination or one stop during a day in the city. Come with a few gift ideas, then see what the local traders have to tempt you.

Ceramics, textiles, prints, jewellery, homeware and vinyl fill two floors of the converted mill at The Hepworth Wakefield’s Festive Market. More than 100 independent artists, designers, makers and producers take part each weekend, bringing contemporary craft and design to your Christmas shopping.

There’s enough variety to take the browsing in stages, especially if you’re choosing something for a person whose taste you know well. A handmade piece for the home or a carefully chosen print can feel very personal. Take time to look closely at the work and enjoy discovering makers you might not come across on your usual shopping route.

Dates: 20th – 22nd and 28th – 29th November 2026

Ilkley Manor House Christmas Makers’ Fair

Local makers fill Ilkley’s medieval Manor House with ceramics, jewellery, cards, decorations and handcrafted gifts. The historic building gives this Christmas fair a distinctive backdrop, with creative work at the heart of the visit.

Mulled wine and festive refreshments add an opportunity to pause while you browse. This is the kind of outing where a few carefully chosen presents can be more satisfying than a long list of hurried purchases. Take a look at the smaller pieces as well as the gifts that first catch your eye, especially if you’re searching for stocking fillers or a decoration to bring out each Christmas.

Christmas Market at East Riddlesden Hall

The Airedale Barn hosts East Riddlesden Hall’s Christmas market, with handcrafted gifts and seasonal treats to browse in a historic National Trust setting. If a barn full of independent stalls appeals more than a long shopping street, put this one on your list.

Refreshments give you a chance to break up the browsing and make a little more of the visit. Focus on the makers’ tables, take time over anything that catches your eye and enjoy choosing gifts with a personal touch. The market has its own setting within the property, so check the visit options separately if you’d like to explore further.

Dates: 28th – 29th November 2026

The second market also has a focus on handmade toys, adding another reason to look closely at the smaller independent stalls. These are good outings to approach with a little curiosity: browse what the makers have brought, see which pieces remind you of someone on your list and allow a little room for an unexpected find.

The cobbled street is home to wonderful independent shops, bars and restaurants, cafes, hotels and pubs, and every weekend in December leading up to Christmas, Haworth’s residents and traders host bands, choirs, carol singers, processions and parades for visitors to enjoy.

Fresh produce and store-cupboard provisions sit alongside the gift browsing, with street food from Vegan Spice adding something to enjoy during the visit. Gift stalls and a farmers’ market come together at Sewerby Hall for a festive shopping day near the coast. The combination gives you a chance to choose presents and pick up local produce in the same visit, with seasonal treats adding another temptation.

Live entertainment is part of the programme, so there’s a reason to linger once you’ve had a first look around. Keep the market at the centre of your plans, then decide whether you’d like to add more of Sewerby to the outing. It’s a lovely option for anyone who enjoys mixing Christmas gift browsing with food shopping.

Choirs, the Malton White Star Band and Dangerous Steve join a programme that also includes a funfair and the Christmas lights switch-on. There’s plenty happening around the shopping, so leave time to pause and enjoy a performance rather than heading straight from stall to stall. The indoor Arts Centre market is worth keeping on your route as you explore.

Hull Minster Victorian Christmas Market

Hull Minster provides the setting for a Victorian Christmas market in the city’s Old Town. Gift browsing brings a seasonal event into a building known for its stained-glass windows, carved oak pews and historic architecture.

Let the setting be part of the visit as well as the reason to shop. Look around the stalls, take a moment to appreciate the building and enjoy a different stop on a Christmas outing in Hull. If you’re choosing between a large outdoor market and a smaller event with a distinctive venue, this is one to consider.

Burnby Hall Community Makers’ Christmas Market

Pocklington’s makers and local traders gather in Burnby Hall’s Community Hall for a Christmas edition of its makers market. Following the earlier September event, the Community Trust is bringing the focus back to local creativity for the festive season.

A community hall market offers a lovely reason to see what people nearby are making and selling. Browse with a few gift recipients in mind, take a closer look at the work on the tables and enjoy choosing something from a local trader. This is a smaller-scale addition to a Christmas shopping calendar, with the community at the centre of the event.

That changing line-up is a good reason to look at the trader details before deciding when to visit, especially if there’s a maker you’ve been hoping to shop with. Go with room for a few discoveries too. Work from artists, makers and bakers gives you several directions to take the gift hunting, with plenty of scope to choose something that reflects the person you’re buying for.

The outdoor market makes a useful addition to a shopping trip in Barnsley. Start with the stalls, take a break for something to eat and see which independent businesses catch your eye along the way. A present chosen from a maker’s own collection can feel especially thoughtful when you’ve taken time to find the right piece.

Victorian Christmas Market at Kelham Island Museum

More than 80 stalls bring Sheffield-made goods and seasonal gifts to Kelham Island Museum’s Victorian Christmas market. It’s a chance to browse local work within a venue that tells another side of the city’s making history.

Brass bands, choirs and carollers feature on the Music Hall Stage, while the museum galleries form part of the visit. The River Don Engine is scheduled to run on the hour too, adding a memorable piece of industrial heritage to the shopping. Leave time to explore the museum as well as the stalls, especially if this is your first visit to Kelham Island.
