Beverley is a great place for a day trip if you are staying in the East Yorkshire area. It is just a short drive or train journey from the beautiful Yorkshire coast, making it an ideal stop on your route. It is also just outside the city of Hull, so could easily be an extension of a visit to the city.
How to get to Beverley
No matter what your mode of transport, Beverley is easy to access.

Beverley Market
Beverley has been a market town since at least the 12th century. With a sprawling market and lots of stalls, Beverley market is an opportunity to experience the bustle of the town, while picking up local produce and handicrafts.
However, market days are the busiest days to visit Beverley. If you want a quieter and more relaxed experience these are the days you will want to avoid visiting.

What day is market day in Beverley?
Beverley market takes place on a Saturday. There is a large market in the Market Place, plus, an additional smaller market in the pedestrianised street near to Lord Robert’s Road (A164). This smaller square is known as Wednesday Market, and there is a market here on a Wednesday too, but not in the larger Market Place.

Other things to do in Beverley
There is more to Beverley than first meets the eye. Here are some of the lesser known things to do in Beverley that you don’t want to miss:
East Riding Theatre
You can enjoy a unique theatre experience at East Riding Theatre. A visit to ERT isn’t just about the performance. This beautiful theatre is housed inside a converted Baptist chapel. The chapel was originally built in 1909 and performed services, weddings, Sunday school and more.
It was taken over by the council in the 60s, and served as the local archives between 1996 and 2007. It is only as recent as 2014 that the building saw its latest reincarnation as the East Riding Theatre. Make sure you catch one of their performances in this truly one of a kind setting.
Location: 10 Lord Roberts Rd, Beverley HU17 9BE

St Mary’s Church
The beautiful church of St Mary’s was built as a sister to Beverley Minster. It is known for its unique architecture due to almost 400 years of continuous building from 1120 to 1530. Its unique collection of styles has earned it the protection of Grade I listed status.

Cute Cottages and Homes
When you are strolling around the streets of Beverley, don’t forget to admire all of the pretty houses and cottages. There are a number of cute properties around Beverley with pink doorways (I’m obsessed with these!) and adorable decor that you will want to stop and appreciate.

Coronation Garden
Coronation Garden is a tranquil garden located just off North Bar Within. The land was previously the site of a Georgian manor house, which was demolished and the land was used as the burial grounds for St Mary’s Church.
The land was transformed into a public park in 1955 and Coronation Garden was created to commemorate the 1953 coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Headstones from the burial ground still line the walls of the gardens. It is a beautiful place to unwind and rest your feet after exploring Beverley!

Beverly Minster is just stunning. I’m a bit jealous of all the history and architecture you enjoy out there!
It is a beautiful minster! There is definitely a lot of beautiful architecture and fascinating history in Yorkshire to discover!
I can’t believe I haven’t heard of that minster before! I’m such a bad historian. I love the old world charm that this village still has – it’s going on my list for my next day trip into Yorkshire!
I think Beverley minster is lesser known than others in the region such as York but it is an absolutely stunning building! Beverley is such a pretty market town that is well worth exploring when you’re in the area!
Those two churches are sights to behold, and I imagine the interiors are just as captivating. I love the design of the North Bar, and the idea of exploring alleyways and streets and stumbling across cute cottages and homes. Clearly there’s so much to see and do in Yorkshire.
They are beautiful, aren’t they? Sadly, they were closed when we visited due to lockdown restrictions, but both are back open again now and they are just as beautiful on the inside as the out! Beverley is a beautiful place for a stroll to unearth pretty gems!
As someone fascinated by history, Beverley looks like a ideal place to visit! I would love to see Beverley Minster and St. Mary’s Church. The entire town looks charming and packed with interesting things to do and learn. Thanks for the helpful guide!
Beverley is a wonderful place for history lovers! The Minster is definitely one you won’t want to miss! I’d recommend a visit to Coronation Garden too if you’re interested in history. It is fascinating to see how the use of the space has evolved over time, but it still shows signs of the previous uses. Thanks for reading!
Such a beautiful looking city, but especially love the look of Beverley Minster. That’s incredible. Good to know when market day is – I always want to know that before visiting a place for the first time.
It’s a pretty town, isn’t it? The Minster is spectacular! It is a must-see when you visit Beverley! The market is fun to explore too, the town is bustling on market days!
What a lovely town to visit, I didn’t know that horse racing was a big event over there! Beverley Minster reminds me of York Minister.
Beverley is a lovely town for a stroll to admire. I personally don’t attend horse racing events but Ladies Day is a big deal in Beverley! Beverley Minster is smaller than York Minster but just as beautiful! The architecture is similar, they’re such lovely buildings!
I have actually always wanted to visit East Yorkshire! It sounds like such an interesting place, and your photos are all super pretty! One day…
East Yorkshire is lovely, I grew up there! I need to go back and admire more of it! Beverley is a beautiful town to explore when you’re able to visit. The coast is stunning too!

I’m a sucker for antique shops so that’s one thing I’d do in Beverley!
The antiques store in Beverley is an impressive one – it’s like a maze when you get inside! It’s so huge, it never seems to end! You’re always sure to find plenty of treasures!
Really beautiful, beautiful countryside and Hull is totally underrated. Everyone rushes to York but Hull is really cool. I always loved Hull and its almost an easy stroll to Beverley.
Ah I agree completely! I’m biased though because I grew up just outside Hull and I stayed to go to university there. Hull is a great city! I’m hoping to get over there soon so I can grab some photos to write some guides! And Beverley is such a charming town with so much to see!
I’ve never heard of Beverley and can’t believe how many amazing things there are to do there! Definitely worth a visit.
Beverley is a lovely place. I’m always surprised by how many things there are to do in such a small place! I hope you get an opportunity to visit!
Love Beverley so much! Admittedly, I haven’t been there recently, but I cycled there often when I lived in Hull. One of my favourite small towns in England. The minster is so impressive.
