Treasure Hunt Leeds is an interactive game played via a chat messenger in a web browser on your phone.
You are guided on your journey by Captain Bess, who shares maps, clues, and instructions that are both illustrated and written.
To play the game, simply type your answers to the clues into the messenger.
Captain Bess will advise you if your answer is correct or if you need to take another look. If your answer is right, you will be given your next direction or some further history about the site.
Players can easily follow the directions provided, but if you happen to take a wrong turn you can simply retrace your steps back to the last clue and make sure you’re in the right place.
Additionally, alternative routes are available when venues are closed. Our Sunday game meant that Kirkgate Market was shut, but the alternative route allowed us to continue our gameplay uninterrupted.
If you get stuck at all, you can request a hint to help you solve the puzzle. We relied on a couple throughout the game!
It is worth noting that Google is unlikely to help you with the answers so don’t waste your time trying to look them up online!

We did find ourselves getting tripped up on a couple of questions, but after re-reading the clues and the occasional hint or two, we cracked it.
There weren’t any points in the game where we felt frustrated that we were unable to find the answer. We might have been scratching our heads for a few moments, but it was all in good fun!

Treasure Hunt Leeds is a self-paced game, so you can take as much time as you need to complete the clues.
Most players will complete the game in around two to three hours.
It took us about two hours to complete the full game without breaks. However, if you have children on the team or want to spend time thoroughly exploring each site, you’ll need closer to the three-hour mark.
There are several spots along the route such as Leeds Corn Exchange and the arcades, where you might want to spend more time exploring, shopping, or grabbing a bite to eat along your journey!

Treasure Hunt Leeds is a great activity for couples! James and I completed the game together and it was a fantastic experience to share.
Working together to solve the clues had us working as a team to decipher the cryptic messages and hunt for the physical answers.
We really enjoyed sharing and discussing the fun facts and history we discovered along the way. These provided enjoyable conversation topics as we walked from one clue to the next.
It certainly helps that the clues are not frustratingly difficult. You’re not in danger of a domestic in the centre of Leeds while arguing over an answer!
Instead, the game provided a fun way to work together and enjoy an outdoor activity on our Sunday afternoon.
In fact, Treasure Hunt Leeds is ideal for anyone looking for a fun day out, whether it is as a family, couple, or a group of friends.

The clues are numbered throughout Treasure Hunt Leeds, so you will know when you are nearing the end of the game.
Once you have submitted your response to the final question, Captain Bess will let you know the game is complete. She will also share a link to your Captain’s Log, which will also be sent to you via email.
The Captain’s Log is your digital souvenir of your adventure. Within the log you will find a map of your journey, plus links providing extra information about the sights.
The log also captures the time taken to complete the Treasure Hunt and the score you achieved (just for bragging rights!).
I love the Captain’s Log feature as a memento of the trail. It is a lovely way to capture a tangible keepsake of your adventure as a reminder of your experience.

Secondly, during the game, you will receive a list of recommended places to grab a bite to eat after clue nine of the game.
These recommendations were incredible and offer a vast selection of pubs, cafes, and restaurants close to the current stop on the trail.
However, a few clues earlier, we passed by Doh’hut in Trevelyan Square, and I couldn’t resist the urge for a sweet treat! So, if you are feeling peckish before you reach the recommended food stops, I urge you to indulge in one of these incredible doughnuts as you pass by!
