Dunham Massey Christmas Light Trail Review
It is difficult to know where to start with a review of Dunham Massey Christmas Light Trail as there is simply so much to see!
The route is really varied with many different lights and themes as you walk the trail. Here are just a few of my favourites as an example of what is in store.
Glitter Balls
The first section of the trail that really enchanted me was the path adorned with glitter balls!
I’ve always been a bit of a magpie so anything that glitters and shines ranks high in my book, but this section of the walk was truly magical!
As you walk through the garden, spinning glitter balls send dazzling lights dancing across the scene. But rather than a high-energy disco vibe, the pretty instrumental music is calm and quiet. It makes the whole experience really captivating!

Rose Garden
I thought the glitter ball trail would be hard to top to be honest. Little did I know what else Dunham Massey had in store!
Upon entering the Rose Garden, you really feel like you are stepping into a fairy tale!
Over 150 roses are brightly illuminated for a really striking sight. And what is even more impressive is the colour of the roses changes in time with the music.
As “Once Upon a December” echos through the garden, the roses gentle sway and change from a rich red, to bright white and brilliant blue.
We spent a long time in this section as there were so many amazing photo opportunities! And we weren’t the only ones!

Fire Lanterns
Still on high from the beauty of the rose garden, we slipped into the quiet reflection of the fire lanterns.
This incredible sea of fire brought all visitors to silence in awe of the sight. The field of flickering lights had an ethereal feel that you might experience when walking into a church. You could easily spend ten minutes here just contemplating in silence.
The levitating lanterns looked magical and wouldn’t be amiss in Hogwarts, to any Harry Potter fan’s delight!
It was difficult to tear yourself away from the lantern’s spell!

The Cathedral
One of the final sections of the walk was the impressive light cathedral.
This display was much more stereotypical of a light trail display. It certainly had the Insta-worthy appeal!
Despite being busy as everyone tried to capture the perfect selfie, it was still one of my favourite stops on the route.
The sheer volume of lights made it so bright and spectacular. It felt light the grand finale of the Christmas Light Trail and will be sure to make your jaw drop.

Neon Strings
Neon Strings is the final stop on the trail and, to be honest, was a strange come down after the Cathedral. Many guests walked by without paying much attention as they mentally planned their journeys home.
However, Neon Strings is not a display to be overlooked!
The vibrant lengths of string crisscross backwards and forwards to create unique geometric patterns that are just crying out to be photographed!
I do think the position of this display after the Cathedral was an unusual decision, but it doesn’t make the display any less incredible. Just make sure you stop to admire it!

Food and Drink at Dunham Massey Light Trail
The light trail at Dunham Massey is exceptionally well catered!
Before you enter the trail, you will be greeted by the delicious smells often associated with Christmas markets. Despite having already eaten, the scent alone sold me a hot dog!
Throughout the trail there are several spots to stop for a warming drink of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or mulled wine. These stalls also sell snacks.
About halfway around the trail there are further food stalls, as well as fire pits to toast marshmallows. These were proving exceedingly popular when we visited!
So, it is safe to say, you won’t go hungry along the trail!

The Dunham Massey team check the route for wheelchair accessibility. Only the section prior to the start of the route is not accessible, so an alternative route to the entrance is signposted and there are staff on hand to assist.
