Waterfalls in West Yorkshire
West Yorkshire is not renowned for its waterfalls. But that’s what makes the few it has so special. Because so few people know about them, West Yorkshire’s waterfalls make the best hidden and secluded spots.
Although these waterfalls are not as large and dramatic as some of those to be found in North Yorkshire, they are all enchanting and look like they came from the pages of a fairy tale!
A visit to any of these West Yorkshire waterfalls won’t leave you disappointed!
Waterfalls in West Yorkshire Map
Here is a map of the four must-see waterfalls in West Yorkshire. They all sit on the west side of the county, mostly nestled in the Pennine hills.

Four Must-See Waterfalls in West Yorkshire
If chasing waterfalls wasn’t on your West Yorkshire itinerary, these four waterfalls will change your mind! These are some of the most enchanting and most beautiful waterfalls in Yorkshire – that you didn’t even know existed!
Here are the four waterfalls in West Yorkshire you really need to visit!
Brontë Waterfall in Haworth
Parking Location: Museum car park (BD22 8DU). Parking charges apply.
Map: Ordnance Survey OL21 South Pennines
Walk Time: 90 minutes to 2 hours (there and back) or you can extend your walk to a circular route to also visit Top Withens. The circular route takes between 3-4 hours.
Terrain: Easy – the route is well signposted and there is a clear path to follow. If you choose to complete the circular route the terrain is steeper once you progress beyond the waterfall.

The pretty village of Haworth is best known as the home of literary geniuses the Brontë sisters. And like many sites in the area, this is where the waterfall gets its name.
Many literary fans visit Haworth today to walk in the footsteps of the three sisters who defied the odds and made a name for themselves in literary history. The village has changed little over time and would still be recognised by the sisters today. But it isn’t the only sight in the area worth exploring!
Just a short walk from the village through the iconic moorland you will find Brontë Waterfall. A charming waterfall that was visited by the sisters themselves. You can enjoy a gentle stroll to the falls, or continue your hike to Top Withens, the farmhouse that inspired the classic, Wuthering Heights.

Read this guide for details of the full circular walk from Haworth to Top Withens, including how to get to Brontë Waterfall.
Folly Dolly Falls in Meltham
Parking Location: Layby alongside Morrisons supermarket (HD9 5QR)
Map: Ordnance Survey Explorer 288 Bradford & Huddersfield
Walk Time: 1 hour (there and back)
Terrain: Easy to moderate. The route along the greenway is paved and clear but steps descend to the waterfall and the path alongside the stream is very narrow.

Folly Dolly Falls in Meltham is an impressive beauty spot that is well hidden. If you don’t know where to look, you could easily miss it!
Because it is tucked away, it makes for a great trip that you can enjoy in peace without many visitors if you time your trip right!
Folly Dolly Falls is a wonderful place to capture some beautiful photographs, step across on the rocks and (if you’re feeling brave) take a little paddle in the shallow water. It is a magical fairy tale setting.

Check out my complete guide to visiting Folly Dolly Falls to discover how to get to the falls. Including where to park and what to see on your visit.
Goit Stock Waterfall in Bingley
Parking Location: There is a small number of on-road parking spaces available. They are located opposite The Malt pub on Wilsden Road (BD16 1BG)
Map: Ordnance Survey Explorer 288 Bradford & Huddersfield
Walk Time: 1 hour (there and back)
Terrain: Easy to moderate. The majority of the route is paved but the final section to the falls is rocky and slippery.

Goit Stock Waterfall in Bingley is a 20-minute drive from the centre of Bradford or 45 minutes from the centre of Leeds.
The location of Goit Stock Waterfall is especially enchanting. The surrounding woodland is beautiful and so peaceful.
There are plenty of large rocks surrounding the waterfall, where you can take a seat. It’s an idyllic spot to pause and admire the beauty of the waterfall.

Check out this guide about how to find Goit Stock Waterfall, where you need to park, and what you need to bring. Get ready to discover an incredible hidden Yorkshire gem!
Lumb Hole Falls in Hebden Bridge
Parking Location: Park at Midgehole car park (HX7 7AA). Parking charges apply.
Map: Ordnance Survey OL21 South Pennines
Walk Time: 90mins to 2 hours (there and back)
Terrain: Moderate – steep in sections and uneven under foot in parts.

Lumb Hole Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in West Yorkshire. This enchanting spot can be found near the town of Hebden Bridge, nestled in the Pennine hills.
This picturesque fairy tale spot is a beautiful place to visit and admire. Once you reach the falls, I recommend looking around and getting some photos of the pretty falls.
Also, see if you can spot the plaque that indicates the spot where six local men were photographed shortly before the outbreak of the First World War. Sadly, all these men lost their lives in battle.
However, there legacy lives on in the form of the poem Six Young Men by Ted Hughes. He was inspired by the photograph to write the poem.

Read this guide for everything you need to know about visiting Lumb Hole Falls. Including where to park, how to get there and what to see on your visit.
Tips for visiting waterfalls in West Yorkshire
If you are planning a visit to West Yorkshire’s waterfalls for yourself, here are a few helpful tips to keep in mind for your visit.
- Don’t pack a picnic when visiting waterfalls. None of these beauty spots have anywhere to set up for a picnic. They also lack bins so there is nowhere to dispose of your waste. Please help keep these beauty spots looking beautiful by leaving the food at home or getting a bite to eat elsewhere.
- Check out this guide to the top hiking essentials to pack for your trip. Many of these locations are remote with limited phone signal, so you want to ensure you are properly prepared for your visit!
- Due to the lack of phone signal, it is important to have a map on hand during your visit in case of emergencies. I always travel with the appropriate Ordnance Survey map on hand. I’ve listed the maps you will need under each waterfall so you can be fully prepared for your visit.
- Good hiking shoes are essential when visiting waterfalls. Due to the nature of waterfalls, the terrain is usually steep, slippery and unstable underfoot. These hiking boots are my personal favourites for a waterfall hike!
- All waterfalls look most impressive after rainfall, therefore the spring or autumn months after a series of rainy days are the best times to visit.
- Finally, respect the environment. These waterfalls are beautiful sights, and we want to keep them that way! Respect any signs displayed, don’t leave any litter and pick up any litter that you encounter on your visit. Remember to also respect any other visitors and the wildlife in the area.

There are some pretty waterfalls in West Yorkshire! Lumb Hole Falls is very pretty! Haworth is a beautiful spot to visit though. I love exploring the village and walking to Top Withens via the waterfall. It is a lovely place to visit!
Ooooh these are all so pretty Hannah! I never really think of the UK as having many waterfalls, but Yorkshire has some beeeautiful ones! It’s a bit of a shame they don’t have space for picnics, but I bet you can find alternative beauty spots to stop and eat after you’ve seen the waterfalls. 🙂
I agree! The UK doesn’t have many dramatic waterfalls like other countries, but it does have plenty of pretty ones! It is a shame that you can’t have picnics nearby although lockdown didn’t stop people from trying and unfortunately there were lots of problems with litter so it might be a good thing that people can’t set up for a picnic. It is really sad when people don’t respect the natural environment and help look after it. The other good thing about Yorkshire is you are never far from a good cafe or coffee shop!
Stunning photos… I always love exploring the natural surroundings of any new place I visit… and the sound of waterfalls is so soothing, I always try and hike somewhere near them!
Waterfalls are spectacular aren’t they! I love a waterfall hike, they’re especially magical if you can time your visit so you have it all to yourself! Thanks for reading!
