What is Oktoberfest?

Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival, taking place annually in Munich, Germany. It is a sixteen-day event running from late September to the first weekend in October and celebrated with beer tents, amusement rides and live entertainment.

The history of Oktoberfest goes back to 1810 when it was traditionally held on October 12th to celebrate the marriage of King Ludwig I of Bavaria and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.

Today, Oktoberfest is a popular celebration around the world. Each year more Oktoberfest celebrations are popping up, as people indulge in German beer and food for their own lively party. Including throughout Yorkshire!

Oktoberfest at Victorian Craft Beer Café and København

Oktoberfest brings German beer, food and live music to Victorian Craft Beer Café and København in Halifax. Across 16 days, you can sample Munich beers alongside bratwurst and German-inspired kitchen specials.

The drinks selection includes Hofbräu München on tap, plus bottles from Paulaner, Hacker-Pschorr and Löwenbräu. Live music adds to the celebrations, with performances from The Skircoats, Bierkeller Band, The Critones and Halifax Landlubbers.

Dates: 19th September – 4th October 2026

Ticket Prices: Free

Address: Victorian Craft Beer Cafe at 18-22 Powell St, Halifax HX1 1LN, and København at 6 Westgate, Halifax HX1 1DJ

Rooster’s Almost Authentic Oktoberfest

Rooster’s brings its first Almost Authentic Oktoberfest to their Harrogate taproom and beer garden this September. Expect brewed fresh-to-tap beers, German lagers and traditional Oktoberfest food.

Live oompah music, games and a best-dressed competition complete the six-hour event. Your ticket includes a festival tankard and Oktoberfest hat. Plus, the afternoon finish suits anyone avoiding a late night!

Dates: 26th September 2026

Ticket Prices: £14.95/person, including a festival tankard and Oktoberfest hat

Address: Rooster’s Brewery & Taproom, Unit H5, Fifth Avenue, Hornbeam Park Avenue, Harrogate HG2 8QT

Oktoberfest at Old Woollen

Oktoberfest at The Old Woollen brings Bavarian traditions to Leeds with steins of Hofbrau beer from Munich. You can enjoy classic bratwurst and currywurst provided by Farsley Fire & Smoke, adding authentic flavours to the night.

Live entertainment comes from The Jäger Maestros Oompah Band, who guarantee a lively atmosphere. Two ticket options are available, either entry only or entry with a two-pint stein of Hofbrau on arrival.

Dates: 26th September 2025

Ticket Prices: £16.80 (entry only), £22.90 (entry + stein)

Address: Old Woollen, Sunny Bank Mills, 83-85 Town Street, Farsley, Leeds, LS28 5UJ

Wold Top Oktoberfest

A brewery on a 600-acre Yorkshire Wolds farm gives Wold Top Oktoberfest the family feel. The courtyard and brewshed setting is a change of pace from Yorkshire’s city-centre parties.

Traditional Oktoberfest music accompanies a beer brewed specially for the occasion, alongside Wold Top favourites and food from Nabs Nosh. For me, the combination of local brewing and a rural setting is the reason it earns its place alongside Yorkshire’s larger parties.

Fancy dress is strongly encouraged, and the ticket includes your first pint. Optional camping can turn the celebration into an overnight Wolds escape, something none of the other entries offers.

Dates: 26th September 2026

Ticket Prices: £18 (includes 1 pint), Camping £12/night per pitch

Address: Wold Top Brewery, Hunmanby Grange, Wold Newton, Driffield YO25 3HS

Rooftop Oktoberfest Leeds

Not keen on a huge beer hall? I’d look to the Rooftop Social if the idea of a big party is not your thing. The Yorkshire Oompah Band plays above central Leeds before later music and drinks take over.

All tickets cover entry, but if you’re looking for a little more, the ultimate package adds bratwurst and a stein. The top floor is reached by stairs, an important limitation when deciding whether this compact rooftop venue works for your group.

Dates: 1st & 8th October 2026

Ticket Prices: From £10/person, £30 for ultimate tickets

Address: The Rooftop Social, 27 Park Cross Street, Leeds LS1 2QH

Oktoberfest Doncaster

Communal benches fill Doncaster Racecourse for a large beer-hall-style party. I’d compare its scale with Yorktoberfest, although Doncaster follows a more familiar touring beer-hall format with live oompah and party bands, German lager, bratwurst and pretzels.

Friday and Saturday evenings are the main party, though the Saturday afternoon session gives you an earlier alternative if that suits you better.

Dates: 2nd – 3rd October 2026

Ticket Prices: From £15.50/person

Location: Doncaster Racecourse, Bawtry Road, Doncaster DN2 6BB

Oktoberfest at Knight Stainforth Hall

Oktoberfest at Knight Stainforth Hall promises an evening of Bavarian cheer with oompah music and traditional food. Expect sizzling bratwursts, steins of beer, and a buzzing atmosphere as Giggleswick & Settle Brass Band performs live.

You’re welcome to wear dirndl or lederhosen to fully embrace the theme, though it’s not required. The event has become a local favourite, drawing crowds for its blend of music, food, and festive spirit!

Dates: 3rd October 2026

Ticket Prices: £25/person

Location: Knight Stainforth Hall Camping & Caravan Park, North Yorkshire, BD24 0DP

HANGR Oktoberfest

Long tables turn HANGR’s Neepsend warehouse into a daytime beer hall. German beers and Bavarian food accompany the Jager Maestros, whose set mixes traditional oompah with more modern party music.

Dress-up is encouraged rather than essential, so you can decide how far to take it. The earlier finish gives this warehouse party a distinct place in Sheffield’s line-up and still keeps your evening free!

Dates: 10th October 2026

Ticket Prices: From £15/person

Location: HANGR Warehouse, Unit 19, Kingfisher Works, Bardwell Road, Neepsend, Sheffield S3 8AS

Oktoberfest at Scarborough Open Air Theatre

An oompah band inside a tipi beside Scarborough Open Air Theatre makes this one easy to picture. German beer comes in steins, bratwurst cooks on a swinging grill and Bavarian costumes add to the sense of occasion.

The event returns for a seventh year and runs late into the night. If live music and a lively coastal celebration sound like your sort of combination, it could round off a full day beside the sea.

Hannah’s Highlight: Scarborough combines sandy beaches with the nostalgia of a traditional seaside town. If you’re looking to make a day of it, my Scarborough guide will help you plan a fuller coastal visit.

Dates: 10th – 17th October 2026

Ticket Prices: £20/person

Location: The Tipi Venue, Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Burniston Road, Scarborough YO12 6PF

Yorktoberfest

Yorktoberfest has moved into a new Big Blue Top at York Racecourse for its sixth year. An oompah band and live entertainment set the pace, with a Bavarian bar and bratwurst from the Dog Haus food stall.

With six sessions across two weekends, it gives you more choice than any other event in this guide. There’s Saturday afternoons alongside evening partying, so you can choose your own pace.

Fancy dress and getting involved in the fun are a big part of the appeal. This is a lively themed party rather than a recreation of Munich’s original festival.

Dates: 16th – 17th October & 23rd – 24th October 2026

Ticket Prices: £25/standard individual, £35/VIP individual, £150/standard table of six, £210/VIP table of six

Address: Clocktower Enclosure, York Racecourse, Knavesmire Road, York, YO23 1EX

Yorktoberfest

Craft Brew Festival Oktoberfest

Instead of charging by the stein, Craft Brew Festival tickets include bottomless beer, cider, wine, prosecco, soft drinks and non-alcoholic beer, served in half-pints, thirds or tasters.

You can talk to brewers between acoustic sets, oompah entertainment and games, and a souvenir cup is included. Street food is sold separately, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available.

Dates: 17th October 2026

Ticket Prices: From £45/person

Location: Peddler Warehouse, 92 Burton Road, Neepsend, Sheffield S3 8BX

Oktoberfest Beverley

Oktoberfest Beverley invites you to enjoy authentic German bands, bratwurst, large steins of beer, and lively games beneath the marquees at Beverley Racecourse. The event features a brand‑new Bavarian Beer Bar, a Mini Trader Village, photo booth, glitter and oompah music, all helping you immerse in Bavarian atmosphere in Yorkshire.

You can dress in lederhosen, join in singing, and grab gourmet bratwurst and pretzels while mingling in a festive, home‑grown celebration of German‑style fun.

Dates: 17th October 2026

Ticket Prices: From £17.95/person, VIP tables from £399.50 (for 10 people)

Location: Beverley Racecourse, York Road, Beverley, HU17 8QZ
