What should you look for in a carry on bag?
Before we delve into the review, I wanted to highlight some important considerations when shopping for carry on bags.
When it comes to carry on suitcases, practicality is key. These cases are going to work hard for a whole variety of trips. You want to invest in one that will be a joy to use.
Firstly, you want to look for one that is going to be easy to travel with. Lightweight cases with sturdy, easy to maneuver wheels will make travelling through airports and destinations so much easier.
Also, your choice needs to be big enough to accommodate all your essentials. But it also needs to be small enough to fit within airline guidelines to avoid having to check it.
Plus, you need to consider how easy it will be to access things in the case. If you’re only travelling with a carry on suitcase, you’ll want to easily get to your essentials to enjoy your flight.
There is a lot to keep in mind when shopping for a carry on suitcase that works for you!
Why should you invest in a good carry on suitcase for your next city break?
But what about if you’re not travelling abroad?
My suitcases rack up more miles traversing Yorkshire than they do in the air!
We usually only consider luggage purchases when we are planning an international trip. But, they will get a lot more use on staycations and weekend getaways than on our international trips each year!
Because of this, you should really consider what your luggage needs are for domestic travel, not just international.
Suitcases are bulky items that can be difficult to store. So, if you find one that meets your needs for travelling at home and abroad, you’re onto a winner!
It is worth keeping in mind how you travel as a whole. Do you only fly once a year but take several local weekend breaks via train? It is better to invest in a case that works well for these trips because that’s where it will get the most use!

Why is Db Luggage good for travelling Yorkshire?
Whether you’re hauling it across the cobbled streets of York or through a muddy campsite, the terrain of Yorkshire puts up quite a challenge for luggage.
As a result, exploring Yorkshire demands a sturdy, hard-wearing case that will withstand the demands of every trip.
In the past, I have carted suitcases along the woodland paths of Hackfall when we stayed at The Ruin. Up a ladder-style staircase at The Brownie Barn, and across many a campsite when we visit the Yorkshire Dales. Travelling through Yorkshire is no joke!
And to date, I’ve struggled to find a suitcase that is up to the challenge.
The best suitcase for exploring Yorkshire can withstand the variety of environments, while being lightweight enough to maneuver around.
Db luggage stands out as a brand built to stand the true test of travel in the real world. And I was optimistic it would hold up to the test of Yorkshire exploration. Keep reading to see how it got on!

Things I love about the Ramverk Front-Access Carry On Suitcase
Here is a breakdown of my favourite features of the Ramverk front-access carry on suitcase. Plus, why they are important considerations when I’m suitcase shopping.
The Size
Firstly, one of the things I really love about the Ramverk front-access carry on suitcase is the size.
The dimensions are slightly bigger than carry on suitcases I have used in the past. But the slight increase in size makes a huge difference!
The size of the Ramverk carry on suitcase is ideal for a weekend away, but works well for a five day getaway. Especially if you are travelling somewhere warm so packing less bulky clothing.
If I am heading on an adventure, either abroad or here in Yorkshire, it is the perfect weekend case!
I’m also obsessed because I also recently purchased this collapsible travel wardrobe to make packing for my trips easier.
I can pack all my clothes into the individual ‘shelves’ and my shoes into the bottom compartment. Then, I fasten it all together using the straps. When I reach my destination, I undo the straps and hang it up in the wardrobe and everything is ready to go.
This fits PERFECTLY inside one half of the Ramverk carry on suitcase. It is officially my new favourite travel combo!
However, one thing to watch out for is the depth measurement. While the dimensions of 55cm x 39.5cm x 23cm is an approved carry on bag size for most airlines, some do limit the depth measurement to 20cm. Make sure you check your airline requirements ahead of your trip.

The Weight
Weight is a big consideration for me when looking for a suitcase. Although I’m not usually pushing weight limits, I often pack my case to bursting. The more weight I have to play with, the better!
As the Db Ramverk is designed as a carry-on case, weight is less of an issue. However, it is still a vital factor to consider. Whether I’m flying with a carry on bag or lugging it across a campsite, I don’t want a heavy bag making my life difficult!
The Db Ramverk weighs 3.9kg. While this is not the lightest case I have ever owned, it is lightweight and is convenient when packing for a short trip.
Much of the weight behind the Ramverk is the compromise for a sturdy, high quality case.
Lighter cases usually have soft-sides that don’t provide much protection for the contents. However, The Ramverk feels incredibly secure and durable. So, even though it comes with a little extra weight, it is worth it in exchange for a solid case.
I am typically drawn to soft-side suitcases, as I find hard cases are prone to cracking when being handled. However, the Ramverk sits somewhere between the two.
The front of the case is similar in feel to a soft-sided case. However, the structure behind it feels sturdier. This case could withhold weight being piled on top much better than a traditional soft-sided case.
And while the sides are more structured like a hard case, they appear to have more flexibility behind them. I would be less concerned there was a risk of cracking or splitting than other cases.
This unique, hybrid structure is what creates some of the weightiness of the case. However, I wouldn’t trade it for the sturdiness and protection the case provides.
Easy Front Access
The feature that attracted me to this specific Db Ramverk case was the front access zip. You can unzip the front access section and fold it back fully for easy access to anything in the front half of the case.
There are a few reasons why I was interested in this feature.
If I am taking a short city break, I find myself toting both a suitcase and a rucksack or handbag. I use my handbag for easy access to my essentials such as my purse, booking details, sunglasses etc.
The easy access section at the front of the case removes the need to travel with additional bags and luggage. This makes navigation much easier!
If I am away for a night or two in York or Leeds, I really want to streamline my luggage as much as possible to save carrying it around with me. So, the front access is excellent for my needs!
Also, the front access really appealed to me for another reason. If I am travelling by train, I like to bring my laptop with me to work on the go. However, lugging around a backpack for my laptop and a suitcase can be a nightmare.
The Db Ramverk is an excellent option for train travel.
The compact size is ideal for train storage while still holding everything you need for a weekend break. Plus, the front access section means you can easily grab anything you need on the go. There is no need to open up the full suitcase and risking pulling out clothes and underwear mid-journey!
The front-access feature alone is a real game-changer in the way that I travel with overnight luggage and will overall streamline the number of bags I need to pack for when I am on the go.

Padded Laptop Compartment
Coupled with the front access, the Db Ramverk includes a padded laptop compartment at front of the case.
I always travel with a laptop or tablet for editing photos during my travels, so this feature is especially handy.
The compartment itself is super sturdy, so you can travel confidently knowing your device is protected.
It also has a handy sling-style strap inside the compartment. You can pull on the strap when your laptop is inside to lift the laptop out of the sleeve.
I hadn’t read much about this hidden feature when I received the case and it took me a while to work out how it worked. However, this clever little feature really blew my mind! It makes grabbing your laptop as you pass through airport security or as you are on the move super easy.
You only have to open the front compartment a little bit to easily remove your laptop, without having to unzip the section the whole way.
The laptop compartment is also very generous in its size. One of my devices is a 16 inch laptop and it fits in the space comfortably. Anything of this size or smaller would easily slot into the compartment without a problem.
There are also two smaller pockets in the laptop compartment which are ideal for storing cables and chargers to keep your tech together.

Compartments
The Db Ramverk suitcase has two main body compartments as well as the laptop compartment. When the suitcase is laid flat, it is possible to fully unzip the case to open it up into two halves.
When the case is open like this, each half has a black fabric cover which can be unzipped to access the contents.
These zip access liners help to keep all the contents together neatly without things sliding around.
As an avid packing cube user, I really appreciate this as it helps me to store my luggage neatly and compactly. There’s no need for additional packing tools if I don’t want to use them.
These separate compartments also ensure privacy if you are accessing items on the go. Because the front half of the case can be accessed from the front access zip without having to unzip the whole case, you can easily reach everything you need on the go in the front half of the case.
Meanwhile, you can store anything you don’t want on display in the back compartment, which will be enclosed in its own section of the case.

The Wheels
Good maneuverability is essential when considering which suitcase to buy. This is especially vital when I’m planning a Yorkshire trip, as my suitcase is likely going to be travelling with me across a variety of terrains!
I need a suitcase that can glide across the cobbled streets of York, or the campsites and fields of the Yorkshire Dales. I really put the wheels to the test on my suitcases!
The Db Ramverk suitcase has four ultra silent Japanese Hinomoto 360° wheels.
In recent years, I have always gravitated to four wheel cases over two wheel options. Generally, I find they are a lot more stable and less likely to roll over (if you are prone to overfilling them like I am!) Plus, four wheels just makes cases so much easier to maneuver.
I usually wheel my way around cities using all four wheels and the Db Ramverk simply glides its way along!
Although I wouldn’t describe the wheels as ‘silent’, the noise they create doesn’t compete with the bustle of a city. The case didn’t make too much noise so I didn’t attract unnecessary attention from others as I passed by.
When I’m travelling somewhere where the terrain is challenging, I tend to tip the case onto the back two wheels and drag it behind me. This was certainly the case when we stayed in The Ruin near Ripon, which required us to walk on a woodland path to access our accommodation.
In this environment, the combined sturdiness of the wheels and the handle of the Db Ramverk really excel. The case feels robust enough to haul across challenging terrain, while the wheels glide easily despite the uneven surface.
For me, this is a dealbreaker when buying a suitcase. Luggage typically takes up a lot of storage space in the home and I don’t want to purchase different cases for different trips.
The reliability of the Db Ramverk to carry my luggage on any kind of adventure makes it a winner!
The Colour
The Db Ramverk front-access carry on suitcase is available in a brilliant selection of colours. Options include black, beige, red, and the options I chose, green ray.
I was instantly drawn to the unique khaki colour. It is difficult to describe but I would say it sits somewhere between shades of olive and sage.
It is really important to me to have a visually unique suitcase, especially if I am checking my luggage in when I fly. There is nothing worse than trying to identify your suitcase on the luggage carousel when they are all black and identical!
I haven’t seen any luggage sets in a colour similar to the Db green ray option, so I feel confident I wouldn’t fail to identify it in a crowd!
Also, the earthy tones of the suitcase means it doesn’t look out of place anywhere.
Whether you are on a vibrant summer beach break, a winter wonderland adventure or a city break, the colour and general look of the case is classic and sophisticated.
So, if it is important to you to have luggage that matches your holiday aesthetic, the Db Ramverk is a great option!

Putting the Ramverk Front-Access Carry On Suitcase to the test
To put the Db Ramverk front-access carry on suitcase to the test, I took it out on a trial run in Leeds.
Leeds city centre was the ideal place to test the Ramverk because it is a popular city for a weekend away. The bustling city streets really put the case to the test and give a realistic experience of travelling with the suitcase.

I was really impressed with how easy it was to wheel the Db Ramverk through the centre of Leeds. The case glides along effortlessly, whether I am walking on the pavement, the road, or on glossy tiled shopping centre floors.
Not only was the case easy to wheel on either four or two wheels, but it was also very nimble. When navigating shoppers, I could easily swerve the case around people and it really withstood the test in crowds.
The handle was another big benefit when exploring the city. It has three height settings so I could have it at a comfortable position whether I was wheeling on two or four wheels.
Plus, the handle is one of the sturdiest I have ever used on a suitcase. With lots of ups and downs across the city, it felt strong enough to withstand me hauling the case around without any fear that it might break.
As well as being easy to wheel, the case was also light enough to carry comfortably up and down steps. Even when it was packed to bursting with my photography equipment!
The separate compartments really helped here as they prevented the contents from shifting and kept the weight distributed.

I also tested out the laptop and front access compartments on the go too.
It is super easy to open the front of the case and grab anything I need on the go. Whether it is my laptop, a bottle of water or my tripod. Even the bigger and bulkier equipment is easy to grab on the go without everything falling out.
The only thing I was conscious of when I was wheeling the case around the city was the noise. Although the wheels are quiet (and I doubt there is any case you can buy that doesn’t make a lot of noise when you wheel it) the wheels did thud quite a bit as it wheeled across paving slabs.
However, once the crowds picked up and the surrounding noise levels increased it was hardly noticeable. No one around me seemed to notice the noise.
So, although I was aware of the noise, it was by no means disruptive to others.
If I were walking through a residential area in the early hours of the morning with the case, I would likely carry it. But in any other situation the volume of the noise it creates is acceptable.
Overall, I loved my day out with the Db Ramverk. So much that I’m bringing it on my next shopping day! I am planning on picking up a lot of bits and this case is far more convenient than lugging around shopping bags!

The Verdict: Is the Ramverk Front-Access Carry On Suitcase the best Carry On Bag?
The final verdict? I absolutely love the Ramverk front-access carry on suitcase!
It is the best carry on suitcase I have ever owned. Plus, I already have a list of other products from the range I am considering adding to my collection!
The combination of size, weight and sturdiness reassures me that my luggage will be safe no matter how I am travelling. Plus, the convenience of the easy access and maneuverability makes the case a real pleasure to use.
As I have yet to fly with the Db Ramverk, I can’t comment on how it will withstand the battering that comes with flying. But after hauling it around Leeds, I’m convinced that it will hold up to it.
It is worth noting that the Db Ramverk front-access carry on is the most expensive suitcase I have ever used. However, even though the suitcase is an investment, it is one worth making.
I have no doubt that it will be joining me on my adventures for many years to come. The versatility of the case means that I can use it for a local weekend away or a five-day European getaway.
So, although it is a little more on the pricey side, it is my go-to suitcase that can do multiple jobs for me, rather than needing several cases.
The higher price tag truly reflects the high quality of the product. This, combined with the well executed features and the sustainability initiatives of Db, means it is a suitcase I wouldn’t hesitate to splash out on.
I sincerely believe that the Db Remverk front-access carry on suitcase is one of the best carry on bags on the market and is a fantastic travel essential well worth investing in.

The complete Db range goes further than just luggage though. Here are a few other items in the Db catalogue I’ve got my eye on:

It can easily be transformed from a backpack to a sling bag with the pull of a ring so you can grab essentials on the go. Although not designed specifically for hiking, I’ve recently purchased one as it looks perfect for carrying the basics on shorter hikes.
