Barcelona Hot Chocolate

When we recently visited Barcelona, we stumbled upon a cute cafe near Park Güell. As it was nearing lunchtime, we called in for a sandwich and a hot drink. Given my sweet tooth, I asked for a hot chocolate, not knowing to expect the best hot chocolate I’ve ever had.

Hot chocolate in Spain is unlike our UK equivalent. The Spanish ‘Chocolate Caliente’ is a thick consistency, often served with churros for dipping.

    • I don’t blame you! Hot chocolate in the UK is usually made with milk so is creamy but not thick like this. When I ordered it I was expecting something more like what we get here so it blew my mind! Why don’t the guide books tell you about this??? I hope you enjoy!

  5. OMG! Sweet tooth alert. I have to eat something sweet every day but this sure makes it to my special list for the weekends. Also if I can find something to dip in that chocolate that would be perfect. Any recommendations?

    • Haha I have such a sweet tooth too! Barcelona style hot chocolate is a great way to get a sweet fix! In Spain the hot chocolate is typically enjoyed with churros for dipping. However, if you don’t have any on hand, brioche or mini donuts would be a great alternative. Enjoy!
